Today's Thought ....
"Don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive." - Howard Thurman
Such a beautiful peace of the puzzle that most of us call life. The same thought has repeated itself today, thrice. Perhaps it is worth mentioning?
What is Happiness?
Great question, and somewhat of a paradox. Truthfully what is happiness to me may not tickle your funny bone. And other's may just put you into a coma from boredom.
The pat answer growing up...
"Well you need to get good grades, Rochelle. Study hard, go to college get a degree in computers or business. Then with a good job you can climb the corporate ladder and get married, have kids and get a house, car two dogs... etc etc... "
Really the amount of energy expended in that sentence just writing it wears me out.. so what is happiness?
Thank God at 30 I found an answer... What ever you want it to be.
Then my parents being old school learned that their brand of happiness didn't jive with mine. Hence.. the married and two kids part in suburbia wonderland... hmmm yeah.. not going to happen.
I did try it, in all fairness, after all Grandma's right How do I know I don't like broccoli unless I try it first?
Seriously though what the world needs? Not another baby making housewife holding down a 40hr work week, caring for man and raising two kids, playing keep up with the jones's.. Nope I needed something more than that..
Alive, breathing, being, feeling, growing, learning, reaching, attaining, pursuing.... the list to be expands every day. The true test of happiness?
At about 9:57pm when I lay out on my bed, the breathing lengthens. As I close my eyes feelnig the breath a warm body curls up on my chest his loud purr a constant to my heartbeat. In that moment I ask myself the question.
"Have I done all that I wished for today?"
As the resounding yes rebounds back to me I feel the smile spread across my lips and I know.
I am happy.
